Outstanding Pair of Chippendale Mahogany
Side Chairs each having a
serpentine crest with a cabachon carved cartouche and chip-carved knuckle ears,
pierced vase-form splat with carved volutes, fluted stiles, molded seat rail,
original slip seat frame, a carved shell centering the apron, cabriole legs with
shell carved knees ending in ball and claw feet, and retaining a fine mellow
patina.
Philadelphia, circa 1770.
Secondary wood:
white cedar.
